Sometimes you only need the sound from a video: a lecture you want to listen to on the bus, a voice message someone sent as a video, a recording of your band's practice, or the audio from your own vlog for a podcast. Android doesn't have a built-in "save as audio" button, but you can turn any video into an MP3 in under a minute, right from your browser.
Extract audio from a video in 5 steps
- Open Chrome (or any browser) and go to the video to MP3 converter.
- Tap the upload box. Android opens a file picker. Choose Gallery, Photos or Files and select your video.
- Pick an audio quality (see below if you're not sure).
- Tap Convert to MP3 and wait for the progress bar.
- Tap Download. The MP3 is saved to your phone.
No app to install, no account, and no watermark. Your video is deleted from our server automatically within 30 minutes.
Which audio quality should I choose?
| Quality | Best for | Size per minute |
|---|---|---|
| 128 kbps | Speech: lectures, podcasts, voice notes | about 1 MB |
| 192 kbps | Most things (standard) | about 1.4 MB |
| 320 kbps | Music, when quality matters most | about 2.4 MB |
One thing to know: converting can't make audio better than it was in the video. If the video was recorded on a phone, 192 kbps captures everything there is. Choosing 320 kbps just makes the file bigger.
Where to find the MP3 on Android
Chrome saves downloads to your Downloads folder. To find it:
- Open the Files app (called My Files on Samsung) and tap Downloads.
- Or in Chrome, tap the three dots → Downloads.
Most music players, including YouTube Music, Samsung Music and VLC, can find the MP3 automatically or let you open it from the Downloads folder. To use it as a ringtone, open Settings → Sound and vibration → Ringtone and add it from your files (the exact menu names vary by phone).
Which videos can I convert?
- Videos you recorded with your phone's camera
- Screen recordings
- Videos saved from WhatsApp, Telegram or other apps
- Most video files: MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM and AVI
- Audio files too: WAV, M4A, OGG and FLAC can be converted to MP3
The file limit is 200 MB. That's roughly 15 to 20 minutes of normal phone video, or much longer for low-resolution recordings. For longer videos, trim them first in Google Photos (Edit → drag the ends of the timeline).
Want audio from a TikTok or other online video?
If the video isn't on your phone yet but is a public post online, you don't need to download it first:
- For Facebook, X and Instagram, paste the link into the matching downloader and choose MP3 in the results.
Common problems
"This file has no audio track." The video was recorded or exported without sound, like some screen recordings and muted clips. There's no audio to extract.
"This file type isn't supported." Make sure you selected the video file itself, not a shortcut or a playlist file. Re-export it from your gallery as MP4 if needed.
The upload is slow. Large 4K videos take a while to upload on mobile data. Connect to Wi-Fi, or trim the video to the part you need first.
I can't find the file. Check Chrome's Downloads list. If you use a different browser, it may save to its own folder.
A note on what you convert
Converting your own recordings, lectures you're allowed to keep, or audio you have permission to use is exactly what this tool is for. Songs and other people's recordings are protected by copyright, so keep those for personal listening.
